Adeline Ruth Wuerch Kraft, 88

Adeline Ruth Wuerch Kraft, 88, Mount Vernon, Ohio (formerly of Gallipolis) passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living in Mount Vernon, Ohio in the care of Kindred Hospice. She was born June 15, 1928 in Almond, Wisconsin, daughter of the late E. W. Henry Mueller and Martha (Kristall) Mueller. Adeline was a music and piano teacher for many years, worked with Guiding Hand and was a charter member of the New Life Lutheran Church, Gallipolis, Ohio where she served a organist for many years. A dedicated volunteer, Addie was involved in Community Concerts, Seal of Ohio Girl Scout Council as a troop and day camp leader and was also a member of the MRDD Board. She married Eldon Otto Wuerch August 20, 1949 who preceded her in death after nearly 50 years of marriage March 21, 1999.

She is survived by three children: Stephanie (Scott) Wilson, Richard E. Wuerch and Christine M. Widrig and six grandchildren: Zachary (Megan Morrison) Wilson, Alexandra S. Wilson, Joshua (Elaine) Sanders, Eli L. Widrig, Benjamin M. Widrig and Ava Adeline Widrig; two great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Eldon Sanders and third great-grandchild expected in August. She also leaves behind to cherish her memory her twin sisters, Grace Mickow and Gloria Pipkorn and many generous and loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by husband, Gerald Franklin Kraft November 12, 2006; brother, Milton Finster and sisters, Trudy Marx and Marcella Crimi.

The family is deeply grateful to the nurses and staff of Brookdale Mount Vernon and Kindred Home Health and Hospice or the excellent care that Addie received.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 in the New Life Lutheran Church, Gallipolis, Ohio with Rev. John Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the church Wednesday 11 a.m. to the time of service. The McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio is honored to serve the Wuerch Family.

Joshua E. Venters, 36, of Gallipolis, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital Emergency Room, Dayton, Ohio.

He was born August 8, 1980 in Gallipolis, son of William E. Venters of Gallipolis and Patsy Haner Venters (David Saunders) of Vinton, who survive him.

Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Jacob W. Venters of Phoenix, AZ; grandmother, Wyllodine Barker of Gallipolis; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 7, 2017 at Centenary Cemetery with Minister Joe Bowers officiating. Friends may call at the Willis Funeral Home, Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 5-7p.m.

Samuel “Alan” Drummond, 56, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2017 at Holzer Medical Center.

He was born July 1, 1960 in Gallipolis, son of the late Samuel Hallard and Clarabelle Edna (Allbright) Drummond. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a sister Tharon Sue Michael, two brothers, Gary David Drummond, Kenneth Ray Drummond, and nephew, Michael David Drummond.

Surviving is his loving companion of 23 years, Gwen Roach of Gallipolis, a sister, Wanda Speakman of Florida, step-children, Callie, Shelly, and Eric step-grandchildren, Mika, Carrie Jo, Alex and step-great grandson, Carter, several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Willis Funeral Home is assisting the family.

James L. ‘Jeep’ Holley, 82

James L. “Jeep” Holley, 82, of Gallipolis, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Holzer Medical Center.

He was born February 13, 1935 in Nitro, West Virginia, son of the late Orville O. and Audrey G. Higgins Holley. Jeep was married to Rosemarie “Judy” Brewer Holley for 46 years and she preceded him in death on October 31, 2002.

He was in the Air Force from 1954-58 and attained the rank of Tech Sgt. during the Korean Conflict. Jeep retired from Goodyear Polymer and Shell Chemical Company. He graduated from Gallia Academy High School in 1954, where he played football and baseball. Jeep was inducted into the Gallia Academy Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011. He was an avid supporter of GAHS athletics through the years. A member of Gallipolis Elks Lodge #107, 8 year member of the Gallipolis City School Board, 4 year member of Buckeye Hills School Board, 4 year member of Guiding Hand School Board, and the City Recreation Board for 4 years. He received the Goodyear Spirit Award two times in 1975 and 1982. Jeep was an usher at OSU Football home games for several years. He was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Michele (Jonathan) Beach of Westerville, Ohio; two grandchildren, Marielle and Ian Beach; a sister, Judy (Jerry) Dillon of Gallipolis; a nephew, Mike (Patti) Fife of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and many other nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Grace United Methodist Church in Gallipolis, with Pastor Bill Thomas and Bob Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Street Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church and from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the funeral.

Donovan Marcus Pope

Donovan Marcus Pope, 80, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

And on the eighth day God looked down on his planned paradise and said, “I need a caretaker.” So God created a farmer, Donovan Marcus Pope, who lived a blessed life for 80 years. Don was taken home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. Don was recently preceded in death by his loving wife, Leota (Odie) Pope. He was born in Lecta, Ohio on November 18, 1936 to the late Woodrow and Mae Belle Pope.

Donovan is survived by his four children; Cynde (Alan) Kuhn, Tande (Jimmie) Rose, Amy (Stoney) Johnson, and Chad (Deanna) Pope, all of Gallipolis. He was blessed with six grandchildren; Jody (Danny) Morgan, Brandon (Erin) Montgomery, Jordan and Beau Johnson, Erin and Evan Pope and four great grandchildren, Jorja and Boone Morgan, and Ellie and Sadie Montgomery. He is also survived by his brother Phillip Pope, several nieces and nephews, and many special friends. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Steve Montgomery.

Don lived a full life of love and laughter. He spent many hours at the family owned business, Pope and Pope Fertilizer in Lecta, Ohio, selling fertilizer to fellow farmers, hauling tobacco to market, and tending to God’s land in the field. He touched many lives through his quick-wit and humor.

Friends may come to celebrate his life on Saturday, April 22 at Willis Funeral Home for calling hours from 5-8 p.m. Masonic rights will be held at 8 p.m. He was a member of the Waterloo Lodge #532. A burial under the direction of Pastor Alfred Holley, will be held at Willis Funeral Home on Sunday, April 23 at 1 p.m. to remember Don’s life here on the Earth and rejoice in the life that he now has in Heaven

Lenice A. Jeffers Waugh

Longtime Gallia County resident Lenice A. Jeffers Waugh, 93, went to be with the Lord on April 20, 2017. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by family at the Hospice of Central Ohio in Newark. Lenice was born December 28, 1923, in Clay Township, Gallia County, OH, and was the older daughter of the late Ralph Mercer and Nettie Caroline (Finley) Jeffers.

Lenice attended the Brush College one-room schoolhouse and was a proud 1942 graduate of Gallia Academy High School. On June 20, 1942, she married Calvin William Waugh in Gallipolis, OH. Two daughters were born to this union of nearly 72 years.

Her devotion to the Lord and her family was endless. Lenice was a baptized member of Edna Chapel Church, where she taught Sunday School. After the chapel’s closing, she became a member of Providence Baptist Church, which she regularly attended with her sister, Ruth. She was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and the Gallia County Genealogical Society, OGS Chapter.

After graduation, Lenice worked for twelve years in Gallipolis for several local clothing merchants and the five and dime store. She also helped Calvin operate a small grocery store in Eureka. Later, Lenice tirelessly served as the primary caregiver for four generations of her family. She cared for her father and her beloved sister, Ruth, while she raised her children and helped raise her grandchildren.

For nearly eighty years, Lenice lived near Teens Run Road in the same valley settled by her ancestors in the 1830s. In 2002, Lenice relocated to Columbus to be closer to her daughters and granddaughters, but she always considered Gallia County her home.

Those left to mourn her passing are daughters Kala Sue Bush of Upper Arlington, OH, and Kim Lynnette (Michael) Wigglesworth of Newark, OH; granddaughters Abra Kathleen Bush of Baltimore, MD, Larae Christine (Jeffrey) Schraeder of Upper Arlington, and Taylor Marie Wigglesworth of Newark; sister-in-law Nina M. Jeffers of Gallipolis; first cousins Billy R. and Dan W. Jeffers; nieces and nephews R. Keith Jeffers, Linda Jeffers-Lester, Jill Roush, Aaron Jeffers, and Ellen VanNest. Lenice was preceded in death by Calvin, her sister, Ruth Julia, and four brothers, Joe Russell, John James, Jack, and Paul Jacob Jeffers.

Pallbearers will represent Teens Run Road friends and neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations in Lenice’s memory to Providence Baptist Church; Clay Chapel Cemetery c/o Clara Haner, 11756 State Route 7 S., Gallipolis, OH 45631; or The Gallia County Genealogical Society, OGS Chapter, P.O. Box 1007, Gallipolis, OH 45631.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Providence Church, 3570 Teens Run Road, Crown City, OH. A funeral service will be held at the church at 3 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Mound Hill Cemetery in Gallipolis. Pastors John Arnold and Troy Delaney will officiate the services. Connie S. Browning Barnes, 66

Connie S. Browning Barnes, 66, Gallipolis, Ohio passed away April 20, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Irene (Ferrell) Browning, born July 29, 1950 at Dorothy, West Virginia.

Connie married Jerry M. Barnes November 28, 1970 at Vinton, Ohio, and he survives. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Vinton Chapter and the Gallipolis Emblem Club.

Connie leaves behind to cherish her memory, in addition to her husband, their son, Christopher M. Barnes, Gallipolis, Ohio and a grandson, Nicholas M. Barnes, Gallipolis, Ohio; three brothers: Woodrow (June) Browning, The Villages, Florida; Larry (Betty) Browning, Zephyr Hills, Florida and Danny (Sharon) Browning, Vinton, Ohio; three sisters: Jackie Crawford, Charleston, West Virginia; Linda Denney, Jackson, Ohio and Kathy Carpenter, Bidwell, Ohio as well as many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Pierpoint and brothers-in-law, Charles Pierpoint, Rick Carpenter and Tom Crawford.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services at this time. Cremation services are under the direction of the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis, Ohio, who is honored to serve the Barnes Family. Memorial services will be announced at the convenience of the family.

Eula Mae Stapleton

Eula Mae Stapleton, 66, Vinton, Ohio passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.

She was born in Logan County, West Virginia on December 3, 1950 the daughter of the late Lawrence and Sarah Dalton Workman. Eula was a retired secretary and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a 1969 graduate of North Gallia High School and member of Deer Creek Free Will Baptist Church, near Vinton where she taught Sunday School and served as song leader.

Eula married Danny Ray Stapleton on July 5, 1972 at Parisburg, Virginia and he survives with their children: Julie (Larry) Greenlee, Vinton, Ohio, Martha (Ronnie) Clagg, Gallipolis, Ohio, Chaz (Tonya) Stapleton, Vinton, Ohio and Joey (Valerie) Stapleton, Vinton, Ohio; grandchildren: Kristen, Steven, and Makenzie Stapleton, step-grandchildren; Annabell and Sammy Clagg. Eula is also survived by a sister, Linda (Mike) McCarty, Vinton, Ohio; nephews, Chris and Ricky McCarty, Vinton, Ohio, and special family members, Katelynn Blankenship and Tristen Bonecutter.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brother, Ronnie.

Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Deer Creek Free Will Baptist Church, Sailor Road, Vinton, with Reverend Mickey Maynard officiating. Friends may call at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel on Monday, 5-8 p.m.

Paul Dean Williams, I, 72, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at his residence.

He was born on August 15, 1944 in Gallipolis, son of the late Paul and Lena Belle (Sheets) Williams. He was a heavy equipment operator for Jaymar, Inc. and for Paul Williams and Sons Excavating. Paul was 50 year life member of the Operating Engineers Local #18, Gallipolis Elks Lodge # 107, and the Gallia County Gun Club. Paul also served in the Army National Guard.

Paul was married to Linda Nowlin Williams and she survives him along with a daughter and son-in-law Paula Gayle Williams-Wray and Greg Wray of Gallipolis and a son and daughter-in-law Paul Dean “Bub” Williams, II and Michele Poling-Williams of Crown City; grandchildren, McKenzie Ann Wray, Chase Michael Williams, Mikayla Lea Poling and Dakota, Faith Elizabeth Poling, and Briar Mason Williams, one sister Barbara (Bill) Unroe of Gallipolis, and nephews Brian and Billy Unroe.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohio Valley Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at Willis Funeral Home on Monday, April 24, 2017 from 5-8 p.m.

There will be full military rites given at the graveside by the Gallia County Funeral Detail. In honor of Paul Williams “take your family out for dinner.”

Arlen B. Brown, 89, of Bidwell, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, WV.

He was born March 2, 1928 in Boone County, West Virginia, son of the late Emory Brown and Orpha Kuhn Nelson. He was married to Josephine “JoAnn” Carrow Brown and she preceded him in death. Arlen retired from Ravenswood Aluminum. He was a member of the United Steel Workers and Good News Baptist Church.

Surviving are his sons, Danny B. (Karen) Brown of West Jefferson, OH, Kenneth A. (Becky) Brown and Randy D. (Linda) Brown, both of Gallipolis; a daughter, Beverly A. (James) Simms of Bidwell; grandchildren, Danny, Kari, Travis, Kristie, Mandy, Todd; great grandchildren, Alexis, Evan, Kyla, Corey, Allie, Kenya; sister, Bobbie Burgess of Bob White, WV.

In addition to his parents and wife, JoAnn Brown, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 28, 2017 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Michael Lewis Hughes, 61, of Gallipolis, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at his residence.

He was born July 8, 1955 in Gallipolis, son of Ray and Janet Hughes, who survive him. Michael married Debbie Graham Hughes on February 2, 1974 and she survives also. He was a graduate of Kyger Creek High School. He was a dairy farmer, living and working on their four generation family farm. Michael was a lifelong member of River of Life United Methodist Church, a current member of Gallia County Tobacco Association, and a member of the Soil and Water Conservation Board for the past 20 years. He loved The Florida Boys southern gospel group and loved his animals.

Surviving are his wife, Debbie Hughes; a daughter, Jenny (Jason) Beaver; a son, Tony (Elizabeth) Hughes; grandchildren, Katelyn (Alex) Stapleton, Justin, Austin and Madison Beaver, and Micah Hughes; his parents, Ray and Janet Hughes; two sisters, Carolyn (Clark) Vickers and Barb (Fred) Burnett; his mother-in-law, Carol Graham; sisters-in-law, Diana (Ken) Beaton and Shari (Rob) Rocchi; brothers-in-law, Mick (Laurie) Graham, Brad (Nancy) Graham, Andy (Linette) Graham; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lewis and Virginia Hughes, maternal grandparents, Howard and Louise Fellure, a sister, Sue Hughes, a nephew, Colby Burnett, a father-in-law, Richard Graham, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rick and Teri Graham.

Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery. Helen Marie Rocchi, 89, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday morning April 25, 2017 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington. Born June 21, 1927 in Springfield, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Raphael and Hazel Bainter Lawless.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her father and mother in law, Astolfo and Lilia Rocchi, by two brothers, Don and Joe Lawless, by two sisters and brother in laws, Mary Alice and Warren Skidmore, and Marge and Kenny Stevens, two brother in laws, Robert and Lido Rocchi, and by a beloved grandson, Tony Rocchi.

Helen is survived by her husband, Remo Rocchi who she married on January 12, 1948 along with 10 children, Charlene (Terry) Ward, Tim (Donna) Rocchi, Sandi Darnbrough, Keith (Sharon) Rocchi, Lil Babbitt, Theresa (Kenny) Chojnacki, Mario (Kim) Rocchi, Jeff (Jolene) Rocchi, Robbie (Shari) Rocchi, and John (Bobbie) Rocchi, 14 grandchildren, Michael Ward, Angie Smith, Gwynne Darnbrough, Joey Darnbrough, Patrick Rocchi, Cara Mounts, Nicholas Rocchi, Krista Rocchi, Brandon Rocchi, James Heady, Broc Rocchi, Brandy Davis, Brant Rocchi, Megan Fraley, and Ryan Clary, and 14 great grandchildren.

Helen and her husband Remo operated Remo’s Hotdog Shop for many years. She always lived her life at the foot of the Cross and always put her family first. She and Remo always enjoyed their Italian and Irish rivalry.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday April 28, 2017 at St. Louis Catholic Church with Monsignor William Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be: Mario Rocchi, Jeff Rocchi, Robbie Rocchi, John Rocchi, Joey Darnbrough, Brandon Rocchi, Michael Ward and Nicholas Rocchi.

James A. “Fozz” Thompson

James A. “Fozz” Thompson, 38, departed this earthly life, peacefully at home on April 27, 2017 surrounded by family.

Jamie was born on June 2, 1978 to Rocky Thompson and Lesa James Lemley. He was a 1996 graduate of Gallia Academy High School. Jamie was active in Madrigals, Choir and JCL Club. He also attended the University of Rio Grande where he was a member of the Masterworks Grand Chorale and OSU. Jamie married his soulmate and best friend Beckie Ellis on October 30, 2009.

In addition to his wife, Beckie, he is survived by his precious son, Hunter A. Thompson; his father, Rocky (Kim) Thompson of Cincinnati; his mother, Lesa (Bill) Lemley of Gallipolis; sister, Chelsea (Jeff) Mayse of Columbus; grandparents, Don and Nancy James of Gallipolis; his father and mother-in-law, Ronnie and Debbie Ellis of Bidwell; nephews and niece, CJ, Dalton, Abby and Tucker Mayse; aunts and uncles, Mike and Linda Fraley, David and Kathy Hineman and Tim Scarberry; cousins, Brad (Dreama) Clay, Tim (Tiffany) Scarberry, Michael Hineman and Caleb Supple. He is also survived by a host of loving family and friends and his beloved golden retriever Dolly, who never left his side.

James was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Ralph Thompson and Loredith (Homer) Lowe, an aunt Millie Scarberry and cousin Jaimie Lynn Supple.

Services will be 1 p.m., Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Heath Jenkins and Pastor Jack Berry officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.

Calvin Williams, Jr., 68, South Point, Ohio passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in River’s Bend Health Facility, South Point, Ohio. Born December 30, 1948, he was the son of the late Calvin and Ella Mae (Larson) Williams.

Calvin is survived by his brothers and sisters: Bill (Alice) Williams, South Point, Ohio; John (Judy) Williams, Gallipolis, Ohio; Faye Smith, Dayton, Ohio and Cindy (Jeff) Smith, Dayton, Ohio and a host of nieces and nephews.

Janice Cook

Janice Cook, 73, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Holzer Medical Center.

She was born on August 29, 1943 in Inez, Kentucky, daughter of the late Elsie and Elkie Mae Preston. Janice was married to Henry Phillip Cook for 60 years and he survives.

Janice is also survived by three daughters Debbie McAllister, Teresa Dovenbarger, and Cheree Hunt all of Gallipolis, two sons Phillip Junior Cook and James Russell (Clovia) Cook both of Gallipolis, a son-in-law James “Moe” Siders of Gallipolis, nine Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren. Janice was preceded in death by a daughter Inis Irene Siders and by a brother Julius Preston and a sister Eunice Fitchpatrick.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Willis Funeral Home. Her burial will follow in the Centenary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday May 16, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Josh, D.J. and Justin Hunt, Corey Dovenbarger, Chad Cox, and Jeremy Carroll.

David Allen Williams, 49, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday May 14 2017 at Holzer Medical Center. David was born on August 20, 1967 in Columbus Ohio. He was the son of Ralph David and Cheryl Williams of Crown City.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kimberly Cox Williams of Gallipolis, eight children: David Allen “DJ” Jr. of Marysville, Crystal (Kyle) Hamborg of Grove City, Rachael (Adam)Wray of Crown City, Miranda Williams of Marysville, Devan Prisque, Alexis Prisque, Peyton Prisque, and Zacharee Prisque all of Gallipolis, three grandchildren, Mikaela Hamborg, Brooklyn Hamborg and Carson Wray, one sister, Kim Hall of Galloway, and two nephews, Zach Hall and Kyle Hall both of Galloway.

David was a graduate of Grove City High School.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday May 18, 2017 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Christopher Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Swan Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be: D.J. Williams, Zach Hall, Kyle Hamborg, Adam Wray, Woody Hall and Keith Williams.

Donovan Laurence Brumfield, 78, of Gallipolis, passed away, at 11:37 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2017 in the Abbyshire Place. Born February 15, 1939 in Crown City, he was the son of the late Esco Thomas and Cornelia Iva Bevans Brumfield.

He was a mechanic and retired from the Gallia County State Garage, he also attended the Elizabeth Chapel Church.

Don is survived by his children, Cynthia Wray, of Ocala, Fl., Beth Brumfield, of Bidwell, Paula Supple, of Gallipolis Ferry, Wv., and Jason (Heather) Brumfield, of Gallipolis, step-children, Sherry Powers, Debra Mink, and Larry (Cindy) Scott, grandchildren, Nathan Wray, Tyler Wray, Jasmine Parsons, Brandon (Brittney) Bonecutter, Whitney Bonecutter, Jenson Brumfield, Dustin Mink, Lindsey (Garrett) Robinson, Larry (Heather) Scott, Jr., Ashley (James) Johnson, and William (Billy) Powers, II., and several great-grandchildren. Don’s siblings, Wendell (Karen) Brumfield, of Gallipolis, Janet (Angelo) Dimeco, of Cheshire, Irvin (Glenda) Brumfield, of Gallipolis, Raymond (Paula) Brumfield, of Minford, Ivan (Roxie) Brumfield, of Crown City, and Terry (Vicky) Brumfield, of Gallipolis, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents Don is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Brumfield, on Sept. 2, 2014 his siblings, Hollis Brumfield, Alice Gillenwater, Eugene Brumfield, Jeff Brumfield, Phyllis Brumfield and Rita Brumfield.

Alexander Jiries “Gooby” Samour, 40, passed away, on May 11, 2017 at his residence. Born October 6, 1976, in Columbus, Ohio he was the son of the late Alexander and Barbara Jean Gardner Samour, Sr. He was a former nurse’s aid at Arbors Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He is survived by his sisters, Regina Burris, of Cheshire, Lisa (Mike) Harvel, Newark, Oh., Angelina Dillard, Gallipolis, and Alexandria (Patrick) Hawley, of Mercerville, brothers, Roger (Debra) Sparks, of Springfield, Mo., George Samour, of Columbus, and Harold (Angie) Samour, of Columbus, a step-daughter, Chelsea Penick. His nieces and nephews, Gabrielle Samour, Angelo Samour, Justin Burris, Bradley Burris, Brian Burris, Brandon Harvel, Katelyn Harvel, Winter Dillard, Tami Hodge, Allen Sparks, Bryony Sparks, Laura Payne, Noah Sparks, and Roger Sparks, Jr., as well as several aunts and uncles and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Alexander is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Elmer and Myrtle Gardner, and paternal grandmother, Evelyn Samour.

Peggy Evans, 83, of Gallipolis, Ohio passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Holzer Senior Care.

She was born on September 6, 1933 in Mount Vernon, Ohio, daughter of the late Harold and Caroline Tulloss Black. She was a co-founder of PJ’s Clothing store in Gallipolis and also retired from the First Presbyterian Church as their secretary. Peggy helped establish the French Art Colony and was a member of the Philomathean Club. She loved playing Bridge and was a 1951 G.A.H.S. graduate.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, and by a son Jay K. Evans. She was formerly married to the late Merrill Evans. She is survived by a daughter Jodie (John) Davis and a son Alan (Bamba Bragg) Evans both of Gallipolis, a daughter-in-law Terri Evans Moore of Point Pleasant, and by five grandchildren, Clint Davis and his wife Kelly Davis, Seth Davis, Dr. Emily Evans-Hoeker and her husband Greg Hoeker, Chris Evans, and Kelli Evans; six great grandchildren, Kyler and Kason Davis, Zach Hemby, Eva and Elias Hoeker, and Savannah Dyer; one sister Eleanor (Bruce) Heister of Palo Alto, CA, and a niece Megan Heister.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church with Ann Moody officiating. There will be a reception following the service at the church where the family can be greeted. The family thanks Holzer Senior Care and Holzer Hospice for their care. Gloria Brownell, 84, Vinton, Ohio passed away at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice, Portsmouth, Ohio Thursday, May 25, 2017. She was born January 3, 1933 in Portland, Maine to the late Oscar and Pearl Heskett Hunt.

Gloria was a member of the Church of Christ In Christian Union, Alice, Ohio and member of the Wilkesville “Fat Club”.

She is the loving mother to her children who survive, Kathleen Dupre, Vinton, Ohio, Robert (Sandy) Brownell, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and Louise McCarty, Vinton, Ohio; seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel with Pastor Denver McCarty officiating. Burial will follow in Curry Cemetery, Wilkesville, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home at 11 a.m. till the time of service on Wednesday.
