Barbara Collins

Barbara CollinsBarbara Jean Collins, 82, Bidwell, Ohio passed away Friday, June 12, 2015, at her home. She was born in Charleston, West Virginia, December 2, 1932, to the late Orum Stanley Baker, Sr. and Eugenia Maxine Bright Baker. Barabara was a well known professional wrestler who held the United States Women’s Champion Title. She was also inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Barbara is survived by two daughters; Rebecca Jean (Bart) Stump, Bidwell, Ohio, and Malia Maxine (Chad) Collins, Kalona, Iowa. and grandchildren, Amanda Marie Stump and Melissa Jean (Matthew) Nibert, Jonathan Stump, Tracy (Patti) Stump and Danielle (Paul) Chapman, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren. Special Friends, Donna McFarland, David Lethco, Ann Stump and the Lyons Family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Albert Collins and a sister, Janet Maxine Baker.
In accordance with her wishes there will be no services. Cremation will be under the direction of by McCoy-Moore Funeral Home. A private burial will follow at the convenience of the family.

Range Of CandlesDoris M. Holderby, age 84, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday morning June 14, 2015 at her residence. Born May 27, 1931 in Camden, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Albert Reeve and Mary Reeve Thornton. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded by her husband; Harry W. Holderby Sr., a son, Harry W. Holderby Jr., a daughter, Donna Stambaugh and a brother, Larry Reeve.

Doris and her husband owned and operated the Gallipolis Food Company, for many years. She was a member of the Good News Baptist church and a former member of the Gallipolis Emblem Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Gaylan) Belville and Mary Ann (Dallas) Martin, seven grandchildren, Nathan, Jeremy and Michael Belville, Jennifer (Morgan) Saunders, Jessica (Brian) Benson all of Gallipolis, Steven (Katie) Stambaugh and Sara (Justin) Richardson of Indianapolis and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving are five sisters, Jean Shearer, Shirley Harris, Mary Ann Stester, Alice Jackson all of New Jersey, and Barbara Holderby of Ohio. Three brothers, Albert Reeve of Arizona, Fred Reeve of New Jersey and John Reeve of Alabama, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday June 18, 2015 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 PM. Pallbearers will be: Nathan, Jeremy, and Michael Belville, Morgan Saunders, Brian Benson, Steven Stambaugh, Justin Richardson, and Hook Dempsey.

Born March 28, 1947 at Salem, Ohio, she was the daughter of Emma Elizabeth (Carter) Richards, Bidwell, Ohio and the late Charles Wayne Richards. Linda was a member of the Gallipolis Harley Owners Group.

She is survived by her children: Sherry (Joe) Russell, Patriot and Ron W. Skidmore, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren: Andrew Gibson, Gallipolis Ohio and Thomas Gibson, Patriot; step-grandsons: Quentin Russell, Gallipolis and Zachary Russell, Oak Hill, Ohio; great-granddaughters: Brooklyn Gibson and Kynslee Russell; brother, Cap (Joyce) Richards, Kissimmee, Florida; sister, Ruthie (John) Davis, Patriot and special niece, Hollie Haner, Patriot. Also left to cherish her memory are a host of extended family members and friends.

In addition to her father, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Skidmore and sister, Annie Smith.

Linda’s Family will receive friends 4:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, June 17, 2015 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, Gallipolis after which time cremation will follow in accordance with her wishes. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Baxter’s Harley Davidson, 1699 Kerr Road, Bidwell, Ohio 45614.

Randy is survived by his wife, Misha Frazier McKinney, whom he married August 3, 1996; brothers: Doug McKinney, Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia and Gene McKinney, Indianapolis, Indiana; sister, Vicky Freeman, Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia; half-sister, Carol (Charles) Stover, Springfield, Ohio; mother-in-law, Carol Farmer, Gallipolis; brother-in-law, Eli “Boone” Farmer, Gallipolis; grandmother-in-law, Bernadine Hill, Gallipolis and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be conducted 1:00 PM Thursday, June 18, 2015 in the Addison Freewill Baptist Church, 261 Addison Pike, Gallipolis with Rev. Rick Barcus officiating. Jonni Davis obit pictureJonni Kaye Davis, age 34 of Crown City, died Monday morning June 15, 2015 at Holzer Medical Center. Born April 25, 1981 in Gallipolis. She was the daughter of the late Gregory Alan Carter and Vicki Henry Stepp of Gallipolis.

Jonni was a homemaker and loving mother. She graduated with honors from Hannan Trace High School.

She will be lovingly missed by her mother, Vickie Stepp of Gallipolis, husband, Rusty Davis of Crown City, two sons, Daniel Owen Davis and Ronald Gregory Davis both of Crown City, two daughters, Kayelynn Dawn Williams of Gallipolis, and Cindi JoElla Davis of Crown City, brother, Chris Stepp of Jackson, her loving mother in law, JoAnn Davis of Bidwell, and several special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, Jonni was preceded by a brother, Zachary Fulks, her father in law, Ronald Eugene Davis, and her grandmother, Hazel ‘Grannie’ Henry.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Friday June 19, 2015 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Workman officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from Noon until the time of service.

IMG_0020Dorothy Mae Walter Halfhill, 91, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 18, 2015 in her home at Bidwell, Ohio. She had a strong will to live and forever kept her faith in God. She cherished her family and always put them before herself. She never let anyone leave her house empty handed. Dorothy lived a long life full of love and laughter. She loved picking apples, gardening, canning and planting flowers, playing board games and taking walks with her family. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of everyone she met. For her, it was the simple things in life that kept her going. Her signature gift of joy showed through her constant smiling, laughter and joking around that will never be forgotten.

Dorothy was born in Bidwell, on November 29, 1923, daughter of the late John and Myrta Smith Walter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth and children Patty, Patsy and Denver. Also preceding her in death were four brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her children: Kenny (Marilyn) Halfhill, of Bidwell, Lawrence (Sandy) Halfhill of Rutland, Larry Dean Halfhill of Bidwell, Goldie (Jerry) Smith of Bidwell, Jonda (Larry) Ward of Bidwell, Sharon (Jerry) Young, of Rio Grande, Sherry Mae Halfhill of Bidwell, Greg Halfhill (Melissa) of Cheshire, Brian (Tina) Halfhill of Langsville, Teresa (Lloyd) Sears of Logan, and Angie (Chris) Slone of Franklin, Tenn.; and her grandchildren: Jeff Halfhill, Brad (Betty) Halfhill, Nathan (Sarah) Halfhill, Tiffany (Gary) Moore, Larry Jr. (Heather) Halfhill, Stacy Halfhill, Brent Halfhill, Jerry Dean (Jackie) Smith, Jason Smith, Sarah (Adam) Hood, Cynthia (Gabe) Marcum, Leslie (Derek) Rhodes, Tara (Bryce) Wilson, Jerica Young, Billy Thompson, Stacie Thompson, Kelsey, Chasity, Jamie, Felisha, Patricia, Krista, Elisha, Tristan, Faith, Daltan, Ashley, Brice, Morgan and Shannon; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews, Bill and Johnnie Pegg.

He was born November 23, 1951 in Gallia County, son of the late Charles Casey and Velva White Casey, who survives him. He was a 1970 Kyger Creek High School graduate. Don was a retired self-employed truck driver. He was everyone’s “go to guy” when we were having any kind of mechanical problems with cars or anything.

He is survived by his mother, Velva Casey of Bidwell; his devoted wife Sue and son Bradley; two very special grandsons, Matthew and Michael, whom he cherished and loved deeply; along with his best friend he rescued as a pup, “Shelby”. Also surviving are nine brothers and sisters, Charlotte (Bob) Phillips, LaDonna Davis, Rosalie (Terry) Hohenberger, Karen (Ed) Gilmore, Connie (Eugene Wells) Montgomery, Cathy (Phil) Saunders, Rick (Karla) Casey, Michael (Julie) Casey, Mark (Debbie) Casey; mother-in-law Erma Adkins; father-in-law Charles Queen; sister-in-law Susan Casto Casey; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda Viddish, Judy (Bob) Roher, Sharon (Scott) Howell; several nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his father, Donald was preceded in death by a brother, Larry, sister-in-law Lisa, brother-in-laws Timothy and Gary.

Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Little officiating. Entombment will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Chapel of Hope Mausoleum. Friends may call on Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was born December 22, 1931 in Frankfort, Ohio, daughter of the late Roger and Ruth Garrison Acton. Judy married David R. Johnson and he survives her. She retired from the Mine Safety and Health Administration and former co-owner of Tranquility Christmas Tree Farm, Jackson, Ohio. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and Ross County Genealogical Society.

Surviving are her husband, David R. Johnson of Gallipolis; a grandson, Jonathan David Dennis of Ashley, Indiana; two great granddaughters, Juliana and Rayland of Ashley, Indiana; a brother, Rodney Acton of Washington Court House, Ohio; a niece, Lynne (Greg) McPherson of West Jefferson, Ohio; two special great nieces; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Buck of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by first husband, Bill Dennis, a son, William Todd Dennis, and a stepdaughter, Karla D’Augustine.

Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Lusher and Pastor Jeff Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at the Willis Funeral Home.

She was born October 26, 1918 in Gallia County, daughter of the late Harry A. and Mary Straight Betz. Pete was married to Walter D. Abblett and he preceded her in death in 2000. She was employed at EI Dupont deNemours in Point Pleasant during World War II, the Gallia County Welfare Department, OHE and GSI for 16 years and an administrative assistant for the Common Pleas Court for 12 years. Pete was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Gallipolis. She was also a member of Eastern Star, Ladies Auxiliary for Elks Lodge 107, Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 4464 and an active member of the Republican Party.

Surviving are three sons, Ronald M. (Kathy) Keenan of Gallipolis, Thomas H. (Anne) Keenan of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, and Timothy (Maureen) Abblett of Orlando, Florida; ten grandchildren, Todd (Chanteau) Abblett and Emily (Phillip) Hanna, both of Inman, South Carolina, Mitch (Lisa Northman) Abblett of Newton, Massachusetts, Eric Keenan of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, John (Lynette) Keenan of Dayton, Ohio, Allyson Keenan of Brooklyn, New York, Bruce (Orianny) Rivera, Tricia (Adam) Dietrich and Joseph (Barbara) Rivera, all of Orlando, Florida, Jeannette (Victor) Vega of Huntsville, Alabama; eighteen great grandchildren; a brother Jim (Opal) Betz of Gallipolis.

In addition to her parents and husband Walter D. Abblett, Pete was preceded by a son Michael R. Abblett and two brothers Kenneth Betz and Carroll Betz.

Services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Willis Funeral Home with Chaplain Fred Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:30 – 1:00 p.m., Thursday prior to the service.

He was born July 26, 1957 in Gallia County, Ohio, son of the late Floyd R. Fillinger and Pauline McKinney Wilson, who survives him. Ray was married to Tina Fillinger, who preceded him in death on December 23, 2009. He was a Hannan Trace High School graduate. Ray was in the U.S. Army and a former mechanic for Gallia County Local Schools.

Surviving are his daughters, Lynmarie (Ernest) Sargent of Pt. Pleasant, WV and Kalyn Paige Preston of Patriot; two grandchildren, William and Olivia Sargent of Pt. Pleasant, WV; his mother, Pauline Wilson of Wellston, Ohio; a sister, Peggy L. Heisel of Centerville, Ohio and a brother, Jerry L. (Tammy) Fillinger of Pt. Pleasant, WV.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Willis Funeral Home with a military flag presentation at the conclusion of the visitation.

Betty is survived by three sons, Timothy Scott (Connie) Condee of Patriot, Richard Neal Condee of Huntington, and Michael Todd Condee of Patriot, four grandchildren, Alana (Eric) Fraley of Patriot, Caleb Condee of Crown City, Rachael Condee of Pt. Pleasant, and Ashley Condee of Pt. Pleasant, and five great grandchildren, two brothers, Dean (Sissy) Wise of Phoenix, AZ., Larry Wise of Yuma, AZ., three sisters, Shirley (James) Lamb of Texas, Marla Edge of Jackson, and Linda (Cletus) Bishop of Michigan. Also surviving is her beloved dog, Butch.

He was born November 19, 1975 in Gallipolis, son of James W. and Carolyn Taylor Haislop, who survive him. He was a pipeline laborer and U.S. Army veteran. Scott was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

Surviving are his parents, James W. and Carolyn Haislop of Bidwell; two daughters, Kylie Jae Haislop of Gallipolis and Taylor Marie Haislop of Statesboro, Georgia; four brothers, Will (Stacey) Haislop of Rio Grande, Andy (Jeana) Haislop of Oak Hill, Josh (Brenda) Haislop of Beaver and Abe (Emily) Haislop of Greenup, Kentucky; a sister, Harland Howell of Tifton, Georgia; and a host of family.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Everett and Thelma Taylor, paternal grandparents, Robert and Inez Haislop and a cousin, Rebecca Cox.

Services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2015 at Salem Baptist Church with Pastor Phil Taylor officiating. The body will lie in state from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the church. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. There will be military services at the graveside by the Gallia County Funeral Detail. Friends may call from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 12, 2015 at the Willis Funeral Home.

(Shirley) Elliott, both of Gallipolis, Ohio; David Elliott, Bidwell; two daughters: Cathy Stephens, Gallipolis and Elizabeth Elliott, Crown City, Ohio; eight grandchildren: Jenny Elliott, Delorse Elliott, Shannon Elliott, Crystal Elliott, Jennifer Errett, Terry Stephens, Ashley Barry and Cynthia Barry; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Peggy Stevens, Vinton, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Elliott; son, Charles Edward Elliott, Jr.; brothers, Bill and John Stevens and sister, Elizabeth Stevens.

Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, July 14, 2015 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Wetherholt Chapel, 420 First Ave, Gallipolis with Pastor Gene Harmon officiating.

Range Of CandlesVertis V. Zaayer, age 103 of Slidell, Louisiana and formerly of Canal Winchester, died Monday July 13, 2015 in Slidell. Born April 1, 1912 in Canal Winchester, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Anna Edna Shelby Alspaugh. In addition to her parents, Vertis was preceded by her husband, David A. Zaayer, a granddaughter, Julia Halley, sister and brother in law, Irene and Webster Shaw, brother and sister in law, Kermit and Ruby Alspaugh, and by one niece.

Vertis was a 1929 graduate of Canal Winchester High School. She was a lifetime member and the oldest member of Faith United Methodist Church, where she was confirmed on June 28, 1925.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Gerald) Halley of Slidell, two granddaughters, Ann (Ken) Rider, and Amy (Gary) Willis, four great grandchildren, Stephen (Tisha) Batuk, Nicholas Rider, Amanda Willis, and Jason Willis. Also surviving are 2 great great grandchildren, Jackson and Grace Batuk.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Saturday July 18, 2015 at the Faith United Methodist Church 15 West Columbus St. Canal Winchester, with Pastor Wayne Stuntz officiating. Burial will follow in the Betzer Cemetery in Carroll, Ohio. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from noon until the time of service.

Range Of CandlesBetsy J. Bevins, 75, of Gallipolis, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Holzer Medical Center.

She was born October 18, 1939 in Bluefield, Virginia, daughter of the late John Otis and Dollie Herald Starling. Betsy was married to Donnie K. Bevins and he preceded her in death on August 16, 2012. She was an assistant manager at Penneys. Betsy was a member of New Haven Methodist Church, Kanauga, Ohio and the Elvis Fan Club.

Surviving are her children, Randy D. (Jean) Bevins of Chesapeake, Virginia, Donise J. (Johnnie) Patterson of Bidwell, Shannon D. (Shannon Joy) Bevins of Gallipolis; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Betsy was preceded in death by 3 brothers.

Services will be 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Chapel of Hope with Rev. David Garnes officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Willis Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Burial will be in Mound Hill Cemetery in Gallipolis at the convenience of the family.
