Velma L. Johnson, 79

Velma L. Johnson, of Gallipolis, passed away, at 5:10 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at her daughters residence in Gallipolis. Born October 4, 1938 in Cherry Fork, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Earl and Donna E. Bennett Snider. She was a homemaker and she loved to attend, setup, and sell items at flea markets with her late husband, and also she attended the Gallipolis Apostolic Church.

Velma is survived by her daughters, Raelene Northup, of Gallipolis, Mary (Dave) Chaffins, of Bidwell, Toni Novak, of Gallipolis, Linda (Charles Barker) Johnson, of Gallipolis. A special grandson, Justin Johnson, of Gallipolis, ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Orville Johnson, whom she married on November 24, 1962 in Gallipolis, and preceded her on January 13, 2014, three daughters, Katherine Copley, Donna Johnson, and Orvillette Johnson Riffle, a brother, Earl Snider, Jr., and a sister, Elizabeth Snider.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018, in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Gallipolis. Pastor Mike Chapman will officiate and interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Charles G. McMillin, 62, Vinton, Ohio passed away at his home Friday, February 23, 2018. He was born in Mason County, West Virginia, July 5, 1955, son of the late Leo Dale and Alma Pearl (Gooch) McMillin. He was employed for forty-one years at GKN Sinter Metals, Gallipolis, Ohio and a member of Joseph Freeman American Legion Post 476, Wilkesville, Ohio as well as a former member of Vinton Volunteer Fire Department. He loved his family and working his farm with his brother, Ralph.

Charles leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Carolyn (Howard) McMillin and children: Jimmy McMillin and Bridget (Raysean) Allen, all of Vinton, Ohio; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers: John (Linda) McMillin, Gallipolis, Ohio and Ralph (Cindy) McMillin, Vinton, Ohio as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, February 28, 2018 in the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, with Pastor David Greer officiating.

Burial will follow in Vinton Memorial Park. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Wednesday 11 a.m. to the time of service.

Thomas J. “T.J.” Bartley, 89

Thomas J. “T.J.” Bartley, 89, Vinton, Ohio passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 at his home. He was born March 28, 1928 in Penny, Kentucky to the late E. M. and Dolly Ann Bartley.  He married Martha Stewart July 2, 1948 in Pikeville, Kentucky and she survives.

Thomas was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic at Cummins Company in Dearborn, Michigan, a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict, member of Vinton American Legion Post 161, LOOM-Lodge 934 and Salem Center Star Grange 778.  He attended the Little Pearl Church in Vinton, Ohio.

Thomas leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Martha; son, Jeffery Bartley, Lake Havasu, Arizona; daughters, Katherine Annette (Joseph) Martin, Garden City, Michigan, Pamela Jeanette Reynolds, Euclid, Ohio and Rhonda Lynn Pittman, Flat Rock, Michigan; half-brother, Dennis; half-sister, Glessie, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2018 at the McCoy Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel with Brothers Kenny Newsome and Jerry Runyon officiating.  Burial will follow in Vinton Memorial Park, Vinton, Ohio with Full Military Graveside Rites conducted by Vinton American Legion Post 161.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Delbert ‘Pete’ Neal, age 65, of Gallipolis, passed away Monday February 26, 2018 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

In keeping with Pete’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services.

Lloyd J. Smith Jr. age 66, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday February 27, 2018 at his home. Born August 30, 1951 in Gallia County, Ohio. He was the son of the late Lloyd J. and Anna Dotson Smith Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by one step son, Ricki Holmes Sr.

Lloyd was a retired coal miner; having worked for Southern Ohio Coal Co. he also drove a truck. He was a member of Providence Church in Bidwell, and was an active layman at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Bidwell. Lloyd enjoyed playing the bass in a bluegrass band, and was a beloved step father and friend.

He is survived by his two step children, Ricki Holmes Jr. of Gallipolis and Baretta (Jennifer) Gilliam of McArthur, and special friends, Alexus Painter and Natalie Holmes both of Pt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday March 3, 2018 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Edward Buffington officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery on Buck Ridge Road in Bidwell.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services.

Eugene Long, 81

Eugene Long, 81 of Long Bottom, passed away at 11:18 p.m. on March 1, 2018 in the Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. Born September 11, 1936 he was the son of the late Golda Singer Long Krackomberger and Samuel Long.

He was a carpenter and a member of the Pomeroy Carpenter Local #650, a former Lebanon Township trustee, and a member of the Shade River Lodge # 453 Free and Accepted Masons, of Ohio.

He is survived by his wife Viola Brewer Long whom he married on November 5, 1979 in Long Bottom, his sons, Dennis (Brenda) Long, and Steve (Teresa) Fitch, both of Long Bottom, a daughter, Annette (Dave) Vance, of Portland. Grandchildren, Bethany Vance, Joy Fitch, Eugene Long, Billie Jo Long, Amy Boggs, Andrea, Owens, Jamie Burdette, Jessica Hamrick, and Steven Burdette, and several great-grandchildren. A sister, Mary (Jim) Pellingro, of Chester, special friends, Joe and Ruth Congo, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his step-father, William Krackomberger, a son, Bill Long, sister, Pearl Rayburn, and brothers, Elson Long, and William Krackomberger, Jr.

There will be no calling hours nor funeral services. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Stiversville Cemetery. The Cremeens-King Funeral Home, of Racine, is entrusted with the arrangements.

Kenneth Smith, 94

Kenneth Smith, age 94, of Gallipolis passed away on Saturday February 17, 2018 at his residence. Born June 23, 1923 in Pt. Pleasant, WV, he was the son of the late Wallace and Florence Williams Smith.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Mary Margaret Young Smith who he married on April 2, 1950 and she preceded him on May 24, 2010, an one infant son, Keith Joseph Smith; one grandson, Alex Hutchinson, two brothers, Wallace Smith and William Edwin Smith and by a sister in law, Louise Smith.

Kenneth was a retired mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. Kenneth enjoyed writing poetry.

Kenneth is survived by four children; Kenneth Edward (Angelique) Smith of The Plains, Ohio, Mozetta Mischell (Lonnie) Hutchinson of Gallipolis, Margaret Hope Johnston of Columbus, and Mark Kevin (Valry) Smith of Vineland, NJ; Grandchildren; Terran Smith, Dominique (Jordan Loop) Smith, Courtney (Amy) Hutchinson, Monique Hutchinson, Nicole (Lamar) Brown, Kimberly Smith, Kevin Smith, Antiawan (Amber) Smith, Dion Johnston and Jordan Howell Smith, Great Grandchildren;  Tyra Smith, Antiawan Smith II, Caleb Hutchinson, Joshua Hutchinson, Emily Hutchinson, Keshia Hutchinson, Madison Vance, MaKayla Vance, Marcus Vance, Ava Gallinopo, Isabella Loop and Isaiah Loop; brother and sister-in-law Kenton (Louise) Smith of Columbus; sister-in-law; Esther Smith of Haydenville and by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday March 9, 2018 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Christian Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Street Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.

Pallbearers will be: Herman Mayo, Dion Johnston, Antiawan Smith, Courtney Hutchinson, Walter Smith and Kevin Smith.

Sally Ann Gill, 86

Sally Ann Gill, 86, of Cookeville, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 4, 2018.

She was born April 24, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Harry Cyrus and Minnie Talitha Roberts Caldwell. Sally married John Harold Gill and he preceded her in death on September 2, 2008.

Surviving are her three children, Richard A. (Jayne) Gill of Pickerington, John K. (Catherine) Gill of Patriot, and Rebecca L. (Roger) Lutz of Cookeville, TN; seven grandchildren, Christopher A. (Tanya) Gill of Thurman, Chelsea P. Gill of Gallipolis, Lynn M. Gill of Indianapolis, IN, John S. Gill of Columbus, Brodie S. Gill of South Portsmouth, KY, Ashley M. (Nathan) Kitzis of Cookeville, TN, Eric M. Myers of Cookeville, TN; seven great grandchildren, Courtney and Carson Gill, Grant, Hannah and Blair Simpson, Addisyn and Wyatt Kitzis. Sally A. “Granny” Gill will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Taylor officiating.  Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.

Friends may call on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
